The Story of Meyers Jewelers
Meyer, a lifelong resident of Columbus, started working for a local downtown jeweler in 1942 when he was 15 years old to help his family during The Great Depression. When he was 17, he volunteered and joined the Navy to represent the USA in World War II. He spent two years in the military and then went back home to Columbus, Ohio, and back to work at the same jeweler he had worked for before the war. Twenty years later, Meyer decided to open up his own store in the Great Southern Shopping Center on the South Side of Columbus, and that was the start of Meyers Jewelers.
Jeff started working in the store in 1973 at the age of 13. He went on to college at The Ohio State University and graduated in 1982. After graduation, he began working full-time. Six years later, his brother Scott followed his path and graduated from The Ohio State University before joining the family business, which he still, to this day, works at. For both of them, Meyers Jewelers is more than just a job—it has been a large part of their lives. Now, 42 years later, Jeff is still doing what he loves at Meyers Jewelers.
